Diversity and improvisation are the key words of Dunia, whose members come from a multitude of cultural and musical elements: from Cuba to Kabul, from the Middle East to Rumania and from Skagen to Gedser. Morten Carlsen and Dunia make unique contributions to world music. The band creates soundscapes of pulsating and complex rhythms. A selection of new, original material from the band members take crowds on an adventurous musical journey. The musicians are simultaneously local and global. They live in Denmark, yet have international careers and are known from many musical collaborations. Dunia holds a broad palette of colour tones: trombone backed by Cuban pop is challenged by the Northern Indian tabla and the Rumanian cimbalom. The Syrian oud provides a fine contrast to the brass section, just as the rhythms of bass and percussion range from Arabian pop over open soundscapes to African dance beats. Music for the heart and feet where ears may move, shake and marvel. The project is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation. Two of the band members, Maher Mahmoud and Badi Rafea, will also perform on Klostertorvet in the afternoon - 05:00 pm - with Syrian National Ensemble.
