Benefit concert, proceeds support African American Student Services Scholarship Fund. The Langston Hughes Project is a multimedia concert performance, created around Hughes’ kaleidoscopic jazz poem suite titled Ask Your Mama: Twelve Moods for Jazz, which features the Ron McCurdy Quartet. Set during the period of the Harlem Renaissance, the poem deals with the struggle for artistic and social freedom for African American people at home and abroad. The show connects the historical dots between the Civil Rights Movement, the colonization of African countries and today’s landscape.
