Benjamin Herman & Robin Nolan Trio at Bimhuis

Dutch jazz icon Benjamin Herman goes gypsy jazz with the trio of master guitarist Robin Nolan. Swing in the style of Django Reinhardt.

‘I’ve been following Robin Nolan for over 20 years and I wanted to collaborate as log as I’ve known him’, sax player Benjamin has been saying for a while now. Last year he went into the studio with the gypsy jazz guitarist, and the results are worth the effort: the Swing de Paris EP convinces with acoustic songs in the style of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli and their legendary Hot Club de France Quintette.

‘This music is fantastic’, says Benjamin Herman. ‘I’ve been fascinated by it as long as I can remember. It’s quite difficult, it requires a different kind of timing than I’m used to. I can’t wait to get on stage and play with these guys!’ The alto sax player, acclaimed for his playing in the New Cool Collective, has been giving concerts for years at the Bimhuis in the month of December....

Englishman Robin Nolan travels the whole world with a guitar over his shoulder, with Amsterdam as his home base. He’s seen everywhere as a gypsy jazz authority. He befriended George Harrison and he regularly performed with Bill Wyman. In his trio he plays with his brother Kevin Nolan on guitar and Arnoud van den Berg on bass.
