Reeds and Deeds Project at Bimhuis

Reeds & Deeds originated as a one-off happening dedicated to the music of Rahsaan Roland Kirk. A passionate and inventive improviser, who played multiple saxophones at the same time, Kirk was a gifted composer as well, who wrote catchy themes. According to Rahsaan’s own proverb: Bright Moments!

Both Alex Coke and Frans Vermeerssen (who played together in Willem Breuker Kollektief) had previously released albums with Kirk’s music. Saxophonist Bo van de Graaff is a great admirer as well. Reeds & Deeds features the eccentric rhythm section with Michiel Braam, Arjen Gorter and Makki van Engelen. The band name was taken from Kirk’s eponymous album from 1963....
