Steve Grossman was born January 18, 1951 in New York and began practicing saxophone in a class of elementary school. At the same time, he became interested in jazz and especially the music of Charlie Parker. He bought like any first record the famous "Bird and Diz" and immersed himself in the Be-Bop. His main influence comes from Jackie McLean. "At that time it was technically impossible for me to imitate Bird and I was captivated by the sound of Jackie and his conception of music, I was also very influenced by Sonny Stitt and Cannonball" says Grossman.
