About

Vocalist Christiana Drapkin presents Jazz and showtunes, popular during World War II, when listening to the radio had become a lifeline of hope for soldiers overseas, as much as the civilians on the homefront. Swing bands lifted people's spirits, "Rosie the Riveter" and "Loose Lips Can Sink Ships" appealed to the patriotic duties of listeners. Cole Porter and the Hollywood composers let listeners forget and dream, at least for a couple of minutes. And "Lillie Marlene" reigned supreme across all enemy lines.
This program is free to the public, with the generous support by the Friends of the Library in Prince George's County.
