Saxophonist and composer Michel Nirenberg, widely known in his native Brazil, has been carving out a niche in the DC jazz scene since coming to the United States in 2012.

Nirenberg’s contemporary Brazilian instrumental style shows a fascinating range of influences, including choro, the first characteristically Brazilian genre of urban popular music, and a slight New Orleans tinge culminating in classically inspired melodic explorations consisting of virtuosity, improvisation, and subtle modulations.
