Brazilian saxophonist and composer Michel Nirenberg and his charismatic
quartet give listeners a completely new experience of Brazilian music. They’ll convey the excitement of the sounds from the dance halls and streets of Brazil, where Nirenberg has led many Carnival parades. Nirenberg’s 2015 album, Retrato, has received high critical praise. Nirenberg’s music builds bridges between the classical, samba, and choro music that he learned growing up in Brazil and the jazz music he explored more deeply as a graduate student in the States.
