Jazz Vocalist Appears in Annapolis

Winsome songstress Nancy Scimone will perform with her Red Bird Jazz Trio in a May 26 concert at 49 West in Annapolis, Maryland. At her side will be two gentle giants of the jazz genre: bassist Victor Dvoskin and guitarist Steve Herberman.

The sophisticated program features standard jazz faire in a program designed to be uplifting, soothing and energizing. It includes songs by Gershwin, Jobim, Ellington, Berlin and many more popular favorites.

A multi-talented and seasoned vocalist, Scimone has graced many stages from New York to the Midwest in a career that also includes performances of opera, musical theatre and sacred music. Her compelling jazz performances show her to be spirited as well as spiritual. The Washington Post has called her “warm and enveloping” and praised her “winsome elegance.”

For this special concert, she’s enlisted some very fine talent to accompany her. According to many jazz magazines, seven-string guitarist Steve Herberman is one of the greatest of his generation. Bill Milkowski of Jazz Times wrote, "Steve Herberman exhibits a vast harmonic palette involving uncommon stretches on the fretboard,” and Just Jazz Guitar calls his playing “world class.”

He and Scimone will find themselves in good company with Victor Dvoskin who made his name in Russia and internationally before settling in this region of the United States. According to the Washington Post, Dvoskin’s “tone, his clarity, his melodic sense…all conspire to grab you.”

The jazz café is located at 49 West Street in the Historic Annapolis district, and offers a full menu, full bar, cognacs, wine by the glass, and desserts. Admission is a $12 and reservations are strongly advised from 410-626-9796.
