The Uruboros Sextet is a non-idiomatic set of through-composed music that draws inspiration from the realms of rock, free jazz, modern classical, and minimalism. There are no "solo sections" - all improvisation occurs as part of the form, emphasizing a dynamic arc created by the entire group.

Opening the show will be an incredible set of gorgeous, lilting songs by Rebecca HH Rosen and her ensemble!

The uroboros is the mythical image of a serpent consuming its own tail. It's often meant to symbolize infinity, as well as the cycle of creation / destruction and life / death. I have also found it to be an apt visual metaphor for the impact of depression upon creativity. For the past several years, I've struggled to start and commit to new pieces of music because of a damaging, cyclical inner dialogue - very much like I was eating my own tail. The music of the Uroboros Sextet is the direct product of overcoming that cycle of depressive thought.

The atypical spelling is the romanji of the Japanese spelling, ウロボロス - a nod to the incredible impact of Japanese pop culture on the music of the sextet.
