Look who's coming back to Ann Arbor. It's Detroit music activist, producer, drummer, bandleader RJ Spangler, who played to a standing room only crowd at the Grotto earlier this year. On March 26th, Guy Hollerin's will be hosting RJ's Kansas City Six in a tribute to the great blues shouters of the American Southwest.A blues shouter is a “leather-lunged” blues singer capable of singing with a band, without amplification, with the best coming out of Depression-era Kansas City like Big Joe Turner, Jimmy Rushing, Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson and Wynonie Harris. Dan Devins, vocals, is a modern day blues shouter in his own right and will be bringing down the house with an array of top Detroit/Ann Arbor band mates to accompany him: Brennan Andes, string bass; Goody Wyche III and Ella Campbell, saxophones, and Ari Teitel, guitar/vocals.
