Drummer/bandleader RJ Spängler's NOLA Band celebrates the music of New Orleans. Together with his musical brother of many years, T-Bone Paxton (vocals/trombone), there is a wealth of experience backing great rhythm and blues artists from the Crescent City. For many years they were the backers of choice for the legendary vocalist Johnny Adams, known as the Tan Canary for his multi-octave range, as well as Mr. Earl King, the famed singer, guitarist, and songwriter. RJ also had a 20-year relationship as bandleader for Eddie Bo, the renowned New Orleans piano man and singer. Take that experience and mix in songs by other NOLA natives Huey "Piano" Smith and the Clowns, the Neville Brothers, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, and various Mardi Gras Indian Tribes, and it adds up to a highly-seasoned gumbo of music and musicians. Joining Spangler and Paxton will be Kurt Krahnke on string bass, young guitar prodigy Alicia Marie, and Goode Wyche III on tenor sax. The Zal Gaz Grotto is at 2070 W. Stadium, AA 48103 and has plenty of free and easy on-site parking, food and beverages at reasonable prices, and lots of room for dancing. No cover. ...
