Peter Formanek
Peter Formanek is a saxophonist, flautist, clarinetist, electronicist, and (first and foremost) a musician and sonic explorer. Hailing from Baltimore, he recently graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Still, he's been studying music with a Ph.D.-level teacher his whole life, as Michael Formanek is his father. His frequent collaborations with pianist Josh Harlow walk the line between energetic improvisations and melodic explorations of touch and tone. His senior recital at Kerrytown Concert House drew a wide audience, but also proved he's a "musician's musician" with a rotating band featuring Tristan Cappel, Noah Henriksson, Tim Flood, Cory Tripathy, Christopher Tabaczynski, Ben Willis, Jon Taylor, and Kenji Lee.
Tim Flood
Active in the improvised music underground since the 1990s, bassist, composer Tim Flood fist recorded the CD Bodies and Soul with Frank Lowe and Charles Moffett while still a teenager. Since then, he has been a regular member of the Andrew Bishop trio, and has worked extensively with several generations of creative musicians including Jacob Sacks, Gerald Cleaver, Pauline Oliveros, Roswell Rudd, Peter Kowald, Matt Bauder, Jon Taylor, and countless others. Flood has also taught courses in digital music and multimedia at The University of Michigan. In 2012 he released the album Mag Mell, an LP that mashed spiritual jazz with sound collage.
David Hurley
Drummer, percussionist, and occasional trumpet and flute player, David Hurley was a member of the psychedelic / progressive rock band Astra, formed in San Diego, CA in 2001 as Silver Sunshine. He left the band in 2013, freeing up more time for interests like jazz and improv. Since moving to Detroit he's been the host of Triixie's highly regarded Monday night series Fire Music, a biweekly gathering of improvisers from Detroit and the greater metro area.
Cory Tripathy
Cory Tripathy is a Detroit-based drummer, improviser, and composer. Since graduating from the University of Michigan, he has performed with Michael Formanek, singer-songwriters Betsy Soukup and Jacob Sigman, as well as a myriad Detroit musicians across many different styles.
