Wycliffe Gordon at Jazz At The Basie at Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre At The Count Basie Center For The Arts

The non-profit organization Jazz Arts Project is teaming up with the Count Basie Theatre to present a series of significant jazz concerts, the first of which takes place on Sunday afternoon February 24th at 4PM.

Jazz Arts Artistic Director, Joe Muccioli who Jazzwise Magazine says works with "a maximum of authenticity," will lead the professional 17 piece big band in an exciting concert that features special guest artist, Trombonist Wycliffe Gordon.

Gordon has performed throughout the world including appearances at the Grammy Awards, on PBS, BET, NPR and is a former member of the Jazz @ Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Wynton Marsalis septet. He is a Manhattan School of Music faculty member and has been named "Trombonist of the Year" seven times by the Jazz Journalists Association. Also appearing will be Vocalist Layonne Holmes (Springsteen, Bon Jovi,Tim Mcloone & The Shirleys and Holiday Express) as well as Drummer extraordinaire Bernard "Pretty" Purdie (AKA the Godfather of Groove - Aretha Franklin, Steely Dan,BB King …)

Under the direction of conductor Joe Muccioli, the RBJO has performed with numerous artists and entertainers such as Joe Piscopo and Natalie Cole and has appeared on such diverse stages as NYC’s Waldorf Astoria, the Count Basie Theatre, and the Two River Theaters in Red Bank, the historic Paramount Theater in Asbury Park, and the House of Blues in Atlantic City. This band boasts an all-star roster, a veritable ”who’s who” in a generation of jazz greats. Each of these top echelon professionals have impressive credentials and are among the “first call” musicians in the NYC/NJ metropolitan area. The RBJO is also known for accurately recreating the sounds and spirit of the legendary and historic jazz orchestras of the past, such as those led by the likes of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and of course Count Basie. Most recently the RBJO released their premier recording "Strike Up The Band" on the hip City Jazz Label.

With swinging arrangements of new, classic and straight ahead jazz in a variety of styles, this concert will prove to be a soulful journey through jazz history, from its New Orleans roots through Swing, Bop and beyond.
