In this dance-inspired concert, the dynamic ASO favorite Carlos Kalmar returns to his roots. Born in Uruguay and raised in Vienna, Kalmar taps into the powerful dance traditions of both locales with a sinuous tango by Astor Piazzolla featuring Ksenija Sidorova dazzling on the accordion. The Piazzolla is presented alongside a sumptuous waltz (the forerunner to the tango). Staying with Vienna, Kalmar leads the Orchestra in Schuberts haunting Unfinished Symphony. He opens the program with music by Jessie Montgomery, a composer from his adopted homeland: the USA.
