He's played with Chaka Khan, Bob James, George Duke, and the greats Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, and Luther Vandross. His signature guitar sound is now "sealed in music history" on over 200 recordings with some of the biggest artists in a wide range of music genres, earning gold and platinum records and solo Billboard recognitions. Powell has also contributed to commercials, award shows, and movie soundtracks.

Doc started playing the guitar at six in Spring Valley, New York. By the age of 15, he was doing professional recording sessions. He now calls Atlanta home and First Congregational Church UCC his church home, where you can experience his virtuosity with the Third Sunday Jazz Band.
