Jon Blondell has performed with everyone from Willie Nelson to Sublime and countless other world-class artists. His album credits read like a music hall of fame roster, and his playing can be heard widely, everywhere from Top 40 radio to television commercials.
Jon was born in a rural community in Iowa and he lived out his childhood in a series of towns from the Midwest to California to the lower Rio Grande valley in Texas. After attending high school in Harlingen, Texas, Jon passed up a full scholarship to MIT in order to pursue the priesthood at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, which he attended on a music scholarship. Jon was born in a rural community in Iowa and he lived out his childhood in a series of towns from the Midwest to California to the lower Rio Grande valley in Texas. After attending high school in Harlingen, Texas, Jon passed up a full scholarship to MIT in order to pursue the priesthood at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, which he attended on a music scholarship. Jon later became a low brass instructor, then bass teacher and jazz program director.
After making the move from San Antonio to Austin, Jon worked as the house bass player at Antone’s Night Club where he played with Buddy Guy, Jimmy Page, U2, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Vaughan, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kim Wilson, Pinetop Perkins, LouAnn Barton, Marcia Ball, Charlie Sexton and others from the Austin Blues family.
During this time, Jon was also working his way into the jazz scene, playing with local artists as well as some big names such as Chet Baker, Branford Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, Joe Henderson, Carl Fontana, Bill Watrous and others.
He later crossed over into the country and rock worlds and has had the honor of working with Willie Nelson, George Strait, Delbert McClinton, Ray Price, Asleep at the Wheel and Dale Watson. His discography is equally diversified and includes not only sideman credits on many jazz, blues and country records (plus scores of radio and television commercials), but perhaps the best known solo in rock music since the early 70’s on the multi-platinum hit “Wrong Way” by Sublime.

Dr. Jim Rose was born into a musical family in the East Texas town of Timpson in February of 1943. His mother was a performer in the Ziegfeld Follies and his violinist father was Concertmaster in the Shreveport Symphony.Jim played trumpet in junior high and high school, having Louis Armstrong and Harry James as influences. Jimattended the UT Medical School in Galveston and after returning from Vietnam, Jim secured a neurosurgery residency for 7 years. He performed neurosurgery at Brackenridge Hospital for the next 45 years. Jim played trumpet sporadically for many years, but walking into the Elephant Room during a Monday Night Jazz Jam 12 years ago changed all that. Fellow artist Jon Blondell provided Jim hints and lessons and he has been a fixture on the Austin Jazz scene ever since.
