Multidisciplinary artist, musician, composer, and improviser, Rob Mazurek, brings three of the world's finest creative musicians to Marfa, TX, a remote city in the high West Texas desert, for a series of quartet and solo performances taking place between Friday, August 10 and Sunday, August 12, 2018.

The quartet includes: Kris Davis (piano), Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (bass), Chad Taylor (drums), and Rob Mazurek (compositions, piccolo trumpet, and electronics).

A solo performance by Taylor will close the weekend at the Crowley Theater.

Mazurek’s boundary-free, electro-acoustic compositions defy simple categorization and draw from a broad palette that includes jazz, free jazz, contemporary classical, and musique concrete. Desert Encrypts: Volume 1, is a four-part suite based on observations from the desert in and around Marfa, TX. The composition includes both written music and graphic scores for improvisation.

The original graphic scores will be on display at Marfa Book Company at the Hotel Saint George. Nate Cross of Austin-based record label Astral Spirits spins vinyl poolside at Bar Nadar following performances.
