ABOUT THE ARTISTS;
TAMECA JONES EXPERIENCE
Tameca Jones, former singer for the band 8 Million Stories is a soulful jazz singer influenced by renderings of Dinah Washington and the vocal dexterity of Ella Fitzgerald. Her band presents old standards in a modern, soulful way. While Tameca gigs with her band, she continues to write new material and collaborate with San Francisco based artist, Tyler Jakes.

GABRIEL SANTIAGO ORCHESTRA
Born in Brazil, 2010 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award Winner Gabriel Santiago, 29, is a Composer/Arranger/Acoustic/Electric Guitar Player. He has been composing music for a wide variety of ensembles, styles and medias (film, tv, internet). His music is fresh and carries all of his influences from Brazilian Music to Jazz to Classical. Most recent career highlights for Gabriel include a concert with Chris Potter & UT Jazz Orchestra (in which Gabriel wrote an arrangement for Chris Potter's "Invisible Man") and a recent highly successful US tour with the Gabriel Santiago Quintet.

JAMES POLK & CENTERPEACE
Dr. James Polk has been one of the key figures in the Austin music scene since the late 1950s. Dr. Polk was responsible for forming the first integrated bands on the scene, which included young white players from University of Texas and Austin's west side. In the 1970s, he relocated to the West Coast to become the music director for the Ray Charles Orchestra. After touring and recording internationally, he came back to Austin in the late 80s. Dr. Polk is now focused on preserving Black music, and revitalizing Black youth culture with plans to one day open an academy for the performing arts. http://www.twinkrecords.com/centerpeace/
PAUL GLASSE AND THE TEXAS SWING ALL-STARS
National Mandolin Champion Paul Glasse is known to Central Texas audiences as a composer, arranger, bandleader, featured recording artist and in-demand accompanist. He has performed with artists such as: Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Gene Ramey and many of the legends of western swing. Paul is an inductee into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame. Paul will be performing at this Jazz Festival with Rick McRae, Terry Hale, Butch Miles and a few others. Butch Miles was the Drummer for the Count Basie Orchestra from 1975 -79 and again from 1997 - 2007. He's played with Frank Sinatra, Dave Brubeck, Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett, just to name a few. He currently performs with his own band Butch Miles Jazz Express. Terry Hale is a 2010 inductee in the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame. He is also the bass player of George Strait's Ace in the Hole Band. Rick McRae is a 2010 inductee into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame. Rick is a current member of George Strait's Ace in the Hole Band and his own Rick McRae and the Riff Riders. His early career included playing with Jimmy Heap and the Melody Masters.

ABOUT THE AUSTIN JAZZ SOCIETY:
The Austin Jazz Society, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, was established in 2003. The purpose of Austin Jazz Society is to memorialize professional jazz musicians who, at some point in the members' careers, performed in Austin and the surrounding areas. It is also their aim to celebrate current performing jazz artists and encourage and educate future jazz musicians. The organization's purpose is achieved through concerts, educational workshops, and performance opportunities.
