The Waxahachie Horns at Monks Jazz Club

The Waxahachie Horns are a high-energy, 3-piece horn section featuring Steve Butts on trumpet, Matt Maldonado on
tenor sax and Eric Hargett on baritone sax. Mostly known as sidemen for the powerhouse, soulful bluesman, Seth James,
the Waxahachie horns have developed a horn-driven band that covers a wide variety of musical styles ranging from
early jazz to today’s popular hits.


Eric received a masters in music in Jazz Composition from the University of Texas at Austin. He established a musical foundation with classical piano before finding

tenor sax and Eric Hargett on baritone sax. Mostly known as sidemen for the powerhouse, soulful bluesman, Seth James,
the Waxahachie horns have developed a horn-driven band that covers a wide variety of musical styles ranging from
early jazz to today’s popular hits.


Eric received a masters in music in Jazz Composition from the University of Texas at Austin. He established a musical foundation with classical piano before finding
his way to the saxophone. His musical influences range from traditional jazz, blues, classical,
70's jazz fusion, rock, as well as various genres of electronic and popular music. Eric plays all of the saxophones,
but he is particularly drawn to the lower instruments. He regularly performs on the baritone saxophone and bass clarinet and
will soon be adding bass saxophone to the mix.

Eric performs regularly with his own small group in addition to the Waxahachie Horns. He is a member of Gerry Gibbs Thrasher People and plays in the Seth James Band.
