The Castlemaine Jazz Festival is held across the Queen's Birthday long weekend, 9-11 June, in the historic and beautiful Castlemaine in central Victoria – an easy 90 minute drive from Melbourne, 1 hour from Ballarat, and under an hour from Bendigo, the Macedon Ranges, Kyneton, Woodend and Daylesford.

Now in its fourth year, nine township venues will be showcasing 90 jazz bands from Friday evening through to late Sunday evening. Fancy Jazz in a church, a decommissioned gaol, an historic pioneer hall, local café, maybe the local theatre (the longest continuously operating theatre in mainland Australia), or perhaps a pub setting is more to your style? The Castlemaine Jazz Festival is held across the Queen's Birthday long weekend, 9-11 June, in the historic and beautiful Castlemaine in central Victoria – an easy 90 minute drive from Melbourne, 1 hour from Ballarat, and under an hour from Bendigo, the Macedon Ranges, Kyneton, Woodend and Daylesford.

Festival musicians will deliver a wide range of jazz entertainment, from well-known New Orleans traditional, 1920-40s swing, jazz-blues, tunes from the Great American Songbook and world fusion sounds, along with contemporary and original Australian jazz pieces. Big Band sounds can be heard on the Sunday at two venues: the Old Castlemaine Gaol and the Theatre Royal. A couple of new activities this year include a Jazz Mass on Sunday morning and Big Band Karaoke segments, where festival patrons can get involved.
