Brenton might not be well known outside of Melbourne, however, has featured on numerous recordings, including those by afrobeat-meet-space-jazz outfit The Shaolin Afronauts and Australian folk-rock wordsmith Max Savage. Brenton is a founding member of the piano trio, Refraction, whose debut album, As We Were, was nominated for Best Jazz Album in 2015's The Age Music Victoria Awards. Their third studio album, Reimagined, was released in June earlier this year.
Brenton has supported artists such as Sting and Jessica Mauboy, and shared the stage with Australian and international jazz icons, including Bob Mintzer, Mike Nock, Joe Chindamo and James Morrison. He is a mainstay of fan-favorite festivals and has appeared at the Melbourne and Wellington International Jazz Festivals, Stonnington Jazz Festival, and Falls Festival.

This will be Brenton Foster's first time playing in the Blue Mountains so 'Music in the Mountains' figured that the newly reopened Mechanics Institute in Lawson would be THE place to bring some fresh imaginative jazz through the Mountains.
