The beautiful thing about Pioneers is that they lead by example, and in turn, show us the way to go ... some to follow and some to take the message further. This season I am looking at those pioneers such as Abbey Lincoln (Caged Bird, Throw It Away) and Nina Simone (4 Women, Feeling Good) and how they took the baton from Billie Holiday, Louis and Lil Armstrong and other ancestors. Hopefully, exploring the complexity of their music will allow us to create another approach at speaking this language, Jazz.
