If you closed your eyes you'd think that 34-year-old Heonjin Ha was from Rolling Fork, Mississippi and not Seoul, South Korea.

A recent participant in the annual "Blues Challenge" on Beale Street in Memphis, Ha is coming to Baltimore for a series of Delta Blues concerts beginning with this performance on our stage. He yodels, moans, murmurs, and whispers the blues while accompanying himself on slide guitar. Says Ha, :“When I write blues in Korean and can’t translate, I put in an English word, but it doesn’t sound right. It tastes like a kimchi hamburger.” ...

Gregory Thompkins has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Jazz/Commercial Music from Towson University (1989). He has studied with Hank Levy, Ron Diehl and George Garzone. He has performed with All Mighty Senators, Lafayette Gilchrist, David Murray, George Garzone, Dave Ballou and Michael Formanek.

Several of Mr Thompkins' students have won scholarships to major music conservatories. He is the Music Director of The Baltimore Jazz Education Project (BJEP), which has raised over $180,000 to provide underserved Baltimore area children with free instruments and music lessons.
