Dr. Lamkin has performed with the Manhattans, the Dells, Stephanie Mills, Maurice Hines, Sonny Stitt, Charlie Earland, Frank Foster, Harvey Mason, Cyrus Chestnut, The Washington Jazz Battalion, The Baltimore City Big Band, the Lynn Gray Orchestra, and the Hank Levy Legacy Big Band. Dr. Lamkin has also performed with his professional jazz groups “The John Lamkin ‘Favorites’ Jazz Quintet” and “The John Lamkin ‘Sacred’ Jazz Quintet.” In the mid-1980s, Dr. Lamkin recorded an album titled, “Hot” which, is still available on vinyl.
Dr. Lamkin grew up in Atlantic City when live jazz music filled many of its streets, and was an integral part of the community’s entertainment district; especially during the summer. It was during these formative years that he fell in love with music, particularly the sound of jazz, and realized then that he was called to dedicate his life to the perpetuation of our American Musical Treasure – Jazz.
A dazzling vocalist with impeccable taste, Eartha Lamkin's vast performing experiences have exposed her to a variety of professional settings. She has performed with her husband in his various jazz, sacred, and R&B bands, and recorded on his album” Hot.” Eartha received a Master’s of Education Degree from Coppin State University. A recent retiree from the Baltimore County School System, she formerly chaired Sojourner Douglass College Department of Humanities.. She is also Music Coordinator at Timothy Baptist Church, and CEO of their Summer Music Enrichment Academy for students interested in learning or continuing to sing or play a musical instrument during the summer.
Martin J Lamkin received a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences from University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Music Education from Governors State University in University Park, IL. Mr. Lamkin taught public school in Richton Park IL. and then joined the Music Faculty at the University of the Virgin Islands in 1986. At the University of the Virgin Islands, Mr. Lamkin was the director of the University’s Jazz Ensemble, and performed throughout the Caribbean with that Ensemble. Mr. Lamkin also worked for the Center for Black Music Research Columbia College, Chicago as the director of the Alton Adams Music Research Institute, in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Mr. Lamkin has performed with B.B. King, Stanley Turrentine, Ralph Peterson Jr. Donald Byrd, Donald Harrison, the Afro American Jazz Caucus Big Band, Charles Fambrough and others. While living in the Caribbean, Mr. Lamkin also had the pleasure of performing on a performance given by the Boston Pops in St. Marrten. He also performed with the award winning Governors State University Jazz Ensemble.
