Todd Marcus (bass clarinet) - Bass clarinetist, composer and bandleader is one of the few jazz artists worldwide to focus exclusively on the bass clarinet as a solo instrument, presenting the instrument with a modern straight-ahead jazz approach. He actively leads small ensembles such as his quartet, trio, and duo as well as his nine piece jazz orchestra. Self taught in jazz theory and composition, Marcus’ compositions draw largely on straight-ahead jazz and classical influences. In recent years he has increasingly explored the Middle Eastern sounds from his Egyptian-American heritage.
Marcus balances his music career by running Intersection of Change, a nonprofit addressing poverty related issues in his Baltimore neighborhood. The organization runs an art program providing children and adults with alternatives to drugs and violence in the community, a recovery program for women overcoming drug addiction and homelessness, and has achieved significant community revitalization by renovating abandoned buildings and vacant lots.
Warren Wolf (vibraphone) - A multi-instrumentalist from Baltimore who studied vibraphone, drums and piano from age three. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2001, Wolf became an active musician on the Boston scene for two years, returning to Baltimore to begin his career as a full time musician. Harry Appelman (piano) - A Washingtonian Magazine DC area's best jazz artist 2003, a finalist in the 1987 and 1988 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competitions (finishing second in 1988), and one of three prizewinners in the 1989 Great American Jazz Piano Competition.
He is a member of several Latin jazz groups such as the Duende Quartet, Afro Bop Alliance, and Rumba Club. A native of the Chicago area, Appelman has a B.A. in Economics from University of Illinois and a Master of Music degree with Distinction from the New England Conservatory.
Kris Funn (bass) - Born and raised in Baltimore, Funn took up the double bass at 14 and through the instruction of his father, Charles Funn, performed his first professional bass gig the same year. Funn graduated from Howard University with an honors degree in computer science but decided to pursue a career as a professional jazz musician. At 23, he began touring internationally with alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett. Since then, he has traveled to every major jazz festival in the world touching six continents. funndamentals.com
Eric Kennedy (drums) - Based in Baltimore, Kennedy is a prolific composer (with over 500 compositions), vocalist and educator who has performed, toured and recorded with Bobby Watson, Gary Bartz, Larry Willis, Curtis Fuller, Richard Wyands, Gary Bartz, Yusef Salim, Charles Davis and Ronnie Mathews to name a few. As an educator he has taught all ages in the classroom, workshops, clinics and private lessons both in the US and overseas during years spent living Europe.
