For nearly four decades Evans wrote for the Claude Thornhill Orchestra, Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley, and groups under his own leadership, and some pieces were never recorded. Currently, Truesdell is embarking on an extensive project, in cooperation with the Evans family, to unearth and bring to light some of the lesser-known music of Gil Evans. Truesdell discovered more than forty works of Evans’ that were never before recorded or released.

In celebration of the upcoming centennial of Evans’ birth, Ryan will produce a record of the very best of these previously unheard works, to be released May 13, 2012 (Evans’ 100th birthday) through ArtistShare®.
