In a career that spans over 30 years, bassist/composer Ben Allison has developed his own instantly identifiable sound. Known for his inspired arrangements, inventive grooves and hummable melodies, Ben draws from the jazz tradition and a range of influences from rock and folk to 20th century and a broad range of music from around the world, seamlessly blending them into a cinematic, cohesive whole.
He has appeared on over 50 albums by various artists and has written music for film, television and radio, including the theme for the National Public Radio (NPR) show On the Media (which boasts a listenership of over 2,000,000 people), the score for Two Days, a play written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Donald Margulies and the theme for The Conversation, a webcast talk show hosted by Pharrell Williams.
No stranger to The Falcon, Chico Pinheiro has performed on our stage with the inimitable Fleurine & The Boys from Brazil. A native of São Paulo, Pinheiro is a leader in the new generation of Brazilian musicians finding fame in America and around the world. He has recorded with major Brazilian and American jazz and popular artists including Dianne Reeves, Bob Mintzer, Chris Potter, Eddie Gomez, Claudio Roditi, Brad Mehldau and Esperanza Spalding.
Steve Cardenas has performed and recorded with numerous and highly esteemed musicians. He was a longstanding member of the Paul Motian Electric Bebop Band, Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, the Steve Swallow Quintet, as well as Joey Baron's, Killer Joey. Steve is currently a member of Ben Allison and Think Free, John Patitucci Electric Guitar Quartet, Jon Cowherd Mercy Project and Adam Nussbaum Lead Belly Project. He has toured worldwide, extensively at international music festivals, theaters and clubs. Steve has released six recordings as a leader. Blue Has A Range is Steve's latest release on Sunnyside Records.
New York born and bred jazz drummer, Allan Mednard has performed worldwide with artists and ensembles led by Jeremy Pelt, Ben Allison, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Aaron Parks, Alix Ambroise, Le Boeuf Brothers, among many others. Mednard was one of the early performers with the musical collective Postmodern Jukebox, and even has a soundtrack credit for the video game BioShock Infinite.
