...while many can lay claim to longtime fandom with Johansen, few can take it as far back as Tony Falco, owner of the Falcon in Marlboro. “I grew up on the same block as him on Staten Island,” said Falco. “We went to the same elementary school. In fact, I was David’s paperboy in 1969; I delivered the Staten Island Advance to his family for a few years when I was a kid. I remember hanging out in awe, watching David rehearse with his band, the Vagabond Missionaries, back in those days.” - Almanac Weekly

David Johansen began his career as the singer of the protopunk band the New York Dolls in the early '70s. Johansen then embarked on a solo career, performing frequently with Sylvain Sylvain. Two solo albums, 'David Johansen' and 'In Style' delivered some standout tracks. "Frenchette" and "Funky But Chic" became associated with the Dolls, although they first appeared on the solo albums. Later, Johansen's pseudonym and alter ego, Buster Poindexter, appeared with Saturday Night Live's House Band, scoring the hit song "Hot Hot Hot". His work as an actor brought him prominent roles, including the HBO drama Oz and most memorably as that of the wisecracking Ghost Of Christmas Past in Scrooged with Bill Murray....
