TONIGHT! A Tribute to Ed Xiques:
Veteran saxophonist and composer, Xiques played with the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, the Toshiko Akiyoshi-Lew Tabackin Big Band, Herb Pomeroy and Maria Schneider Big Bands, and with Jim McNeely Tentet and the Vanguard Orchestra. He's played in bands backing Sammy Davis Jr., the Jackson 5, Tony Bennett, Liza Minelli, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, Lou Rawls, and Gladys Knight.

Xiques released two solo albums - Little Bear (1992) and Spacewalk (1996). Xiques is a member of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop and the BMI Jazz Composers Orchestra; He has been active as a teacher, performer, and composer in and around NYC, and is on the Vassar College music faculty....

The Composers Big Band is a dedicated group of musicians and composers whose mission is to explore and move big band music forward, into the future.

Since 1997, Diane Moser's Composers Big Band has presented over 100 guest composers and performers, with new works by their 13 resident composers - ranging from straight ahead Jazz to Latin, Indian Ragas, Funk, Blues, Experimental and everything in between!

Projects have included poets, actors, electronics, film, soundpainting and Jazz opera! Homage is paid to great composers of the past, such as Charles Mingus, Oliver Nelson, George Russell, Thad Jones and Jaki Byard.
The Band presents a very special annual October peace concert entitled "Tribute to Daniel Pearl World Music Days". They were recently honored by the Barron Arts Center, NJ as a Legend of NJ Big Bands and placed in the "Rising Star Category" in the 65th Annual DOWNBEAT Critics Poll.
