The other-world improvisational music of the trio Sumari will be featured at Quinn’s in Beacon NY on Monday, March 30. The performance will begin at 8PM.
Evidenced on the seven tracks of their debut CD, “Sumari” (Unseen Rain Records), the ensemble creates tapestries of sound, at once familiar and defiantly new. Fusing unexpected traditions and distant folk forms with post-modern chamber music and free jazz, Sumari remains unclassifiable. While this trio maintains a deep connection to the exploratory trio CoDoNa, Sumari sits on the sonic nether-regions of their 1980s counter-parts.

The Hudson Valley city of Beacon has become increasingly known as an upstate arts capital in recent years. Quinn’s, a club which presents creative sounds from free improv to post-punk, has been a welcome addition to both performers and listeners. Its Monday night series of Jazz and New Music has presented some powerful artists of note to the community. This will be Sumari’s debut at this performance space.
