In1963 Lou Pallo met his idol, Les Paul. Les had retired, due in part to painful arthritis and the introduction of Rock & Roll. Les began sitting in at Lou’s gigs, rehearsing, recording and sitting in with club acts. One year, Les sat in on one of Lou’s steady gigs 86 times!
In 1984, they formed the Les Paul Trio working every Monday night at Fat Tuesdays NYC. In 1996 the weekly performances moved to the Iridium Jazz Club. Lou continues to lead Les Paul’s Trio at the Iridium in NYC every Monday night. He is joined by Nicki Parrott on bass and John Colianni on piano, in addition to special guests each week. Lou’s keeps Les’ music and unique style alive as he pays homage to his long-time band mate, friend and idol.
NICKI PARROTT
In 2012 Nicki released Sakura, Sakura (Spring), Summertime, Autumn Leaves and Winter Wonderland on Venus Records. Nicki’s 2008 CD release (Venus Records), Fly Me To The Moon and 2007 CD release (Venus Records), Moon River were voted Swing Journal Magazine Critic’s Poll, “Best Jazz Vocal Album.“
Nicki performs regularly on Monday nights at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City as part of the legendary Les Paul’s Trio. Nicki was Les Paul’s bassist and vocalist for over 10 years. In addition to performing at most of the world’s top jazz festivals, Nicki has performed with such jazz greats as Randy Brecker, Clark Terry, Jose Feliciano, Rebecca Paris, Bucky Pizzarelli, John Pizzarelli, Dick Hyman, Patti Labelle & the New York Pops Orchestra, Harry Allen, Michel Legrand, Marlena Shaw, Mike Stern, David Krakauer, Ken Peplowski, Ann Hampton Callaway, Scott Hamilton, Larry Carlton and Victor Wooten.
JOHN COLIANNI
Les added pianist John Colianni to his group in 2003, on the recommendation of fellow guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli. John is also currently a member of guitarist Larry Coryell's trio, and is featured on Coryell's latest release. John also performs with his own group, the John Colianni Quintet, in NYC, on the road and overseas. John's group was the house band on the MSNBC television program "After Hours with Dan Abrams", for the show's final season. Other notable engagements include years recording and touring internationally as Mel Torme’s pianist and with Lionel Hampton’s Orchestra. And after signing with Concord Records, John was a prizewinner in the First International Thelonius Monk Piano Competition.
