With a solid background in jazz studies, a deep connection to Portuguese traditional music, and endless hours of listening to Brazilian legendary musicians, Sofia’s artistry challenges the boundaries of music labels. With over 8 albums as a leader, Sofia has been touring all over the world for the past 14 years and collaborating with top musicians from Europe and New York. She has won several international vocal prizes, such as the vocal jazz competitions “Voicingers” (Poland, 2008) and the “Crest Jazz Vocal” (France, 2010) and the second prize at the Brussels “Young Jazz Singers” competition (Belgium, 2005). In 2008 she was selected to participate at the prestigious “Betty Carter Jazz Ahead” program at the Kennedy Center (Washington, DC).
