The Hank Levy Legacy Band, with 20 members, was formed after the death of Hank Levy, who directed the Jazz Studies program at Towson University for 21 years. Levy's tune "Whiplash" is heard in the recently-released movie of the same name. The program begins with a 20-minute short version of the movie, and the music begins at 7:30

Levy wrote a number of large scale compositions, including his Opus for Overextended Jazz Ensemble, which was premiered by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 1971. Levy wrote compositions that he said would give jazz "a kick in the rear end" by using odd meters like 5/4, 7/4, 9/4 and 13/8, and by employing unusual harmonies and voicings. ...
