Daniel Ian Smith And The Generations Quartet at The W Gallery

On Sunday, May 15th from 2 pm to 3 pm, The W Gallery proudly presents Daniel Ian Smith and The Generations Quartet. This ensemble is comprised of 4 individuals from very different, diverse and international backgrounds who all share the commonality that they each came to Boston, MA as part of their musical journey at one stage or another in their lives. Saxophonist Daniel Ian Smith arrived in 1987 to study with the great woodwind player/composer Jimmy Giuffre. Daniel has been a Professor of Music at Berklee for the past 27 years and has performed and taught around the world for over 30 years. Leo Blanco hails from Venezuela and is a performer and composer of unparalleled strength, passion and creativity. Gerson Lazo Quiroga came to Boston from his home in Concepicion, Chile. In 2014 he was awarded the prestigious Presidential Scholarship to study performance, jazz composition and production/engineering. He now is a sought after bassist, recording engineer/producer and composer/arranger. Gen Yoshimura arrived in Boston via his hometown in Japan to study at the Berklee College and since graduation has become an in demand sideman and recording artist. This concert is part of the monthly jazz series at the W and is led by Berklee College of Music Professor and Jazz Chair of the W Gallery, Neil Olmstead.
