Daniel Rotem Trio at Regattabar

Just before they enter the studio to record their debut album, Daniel Rotem, Jared Henderson, and Roberto Giaquinto return to the Regattabar to perform original compositions integrating world influences with improvisation and the jazz tradition.
Enchanted by jazz as a teenager, Israeli born Daniel Rotem began playing tenor saxophone at age 13. He studied at Thelma Yellin High School and the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in Tel Aviv, and was the youngest student to be awarded first place in Rimon’s Outstanding Jazz Player Competition. Daniel received a full scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music, from which he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Performance in December 2013. Daniel has studied and performed with Bill Pierce, Hal Crook, Alain Mallet, David Liebman, Greg Hopkins, Peter Erskine, George Garzone, Lionel Loueke, Jeremy Pelt, and Terri Lynn Carrington. Daniel has also performed with the Idan Raichel Project and in a joint performance with India Arie, and participated in the 20th IASJ meeting in The Hague, the Siena Jazz Workshops in Italy, and the Jazz Education Network (JEN) conference in Louisville, Kentucky.

Daniel, Jared, and Roberto played together for the first time in an ensemble class at Berklee College of Music, under the direction of the acclaimed improviser and educator Hal Crook. A strong musical bond was instantly created and it was clear that this was only the beginning. Working as a group for almost three years, the trio has developed a unique and fresh sound, exploring the balance between listening and playing while continually looking to expand the boundaries of genre. In December 2013 they went on a state-sponsored five-day tour in Tbilisi, Georgia with pianist Giorgi Mikadze, and are scheduled to perform at the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival in May 2014.
