At 24 years old, David Neves is one of the most active and exciting trumpet players in Boston’s jazz scene. After finishing high school, Neves was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he was chosen to be a member of the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute. Through this program, he had the privilege of studying with some of the greatest and most active jazz musicians in the world, including Wayne Shorter, Danilo Perez and Joe Lovano. Neves is currently a scholarship student at New England Conservatory, where he will complete a Master’s Degree in jazz performance in 2014. David’s career has taken him to venues around the world, including an appearance at the 2011 Panama Jazz Festival, as well as the JEN Conferences in both New Orleans and Louisville. In 2010, Neves traveled to Sydney, Australia, where he won first prize in the International Trumpet Guild’s Jazz Solo Competition. He has also appeared at the Newport Jazz Festival, Regatta Bar, Scullers Jazz Club, NEC’s Jordan Hall, and the Berklee Performance Center. Progress Report Neves debut album as a leader.

Joining Neves is a diverse array of sought after Boston and New York musicians including alto saxophonist Michael Thomas, who is also producing the album and composed some of the music to be performed. Along with Thomas, tenor saxophonist and composer Barclay Moffitt joins Neves with guitarist Gregory Duncan, pianist Julian Shore, bassist Edward Perez and drummer Lee Fish.

Considered “…a bad cat on the horn [who] knows the past and has complete command of the horn with a great future ahead,” by NEA Jazz Master saxophonist Dave Liebman, Neves has a bright future ahead of him and is thrilled to be celebrating this important step in his career at Scullers on Februrary 11 at 8:00 PM. Scullers functions as a full service bar and restaurant.
