April 26th debut concert during Bostonโs Jazz Week
Arlington, MA . . . On Saturday, April 26th at 7 p.m., EulipiaJazz โ a new production company based in Arlington dedicated to creating opportunities for local musicians and multidisciplinary artists to perform and collaborate โ will present the first concert in what will be a three-part series at Arlington Center for the Arts Theater at 41 Foster Street in Arlington. Planned to coincide with Bostonโs Jazz Week and aiming to ignite collective synergy, EulipiaJazzโs debut concert โ made possible in part by a generous grant from the Arlington Arts Council โ will bring together a group of highly talented and diverse artists presenting an eclectic program of original musical compositions and visual art.
Two musical groups with ties to Arlington will take the stage at this multifaceted cultural event. Founded by Arlington resident Scott Samenfeld (guitar, bass, composer), Muse Stew also features Arlington resident Karen Gruber (congas, djembe, percussion, and violin), as well as Susanna Fiore (piano, hand drums, and percussion). Dedicated to the music of Samenfeld, the group began playing in the Boston area in the 1990s and has produced two CDs: Crossings (1996) and Live at the Zeitgeist Gallery (2004). Joining Muse Stew at this concert will be guest musicians Todd Brunel (clarinet, bass clarinet, and soprano saxaphone) and Jimmy Repa (tenor and alto saxophone).
Also performing will be Flametet, a jazz-improvisational group led by bassist and composer Kit Demos (bass, analog microtonal synth). The group โ which also includes Charlie Kohlhase (alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone), Jeff Platz (guitarist and composer), John Mlellan (drums), Pandelis Karayorgis (pianist and composer), and Arlington resident Todd Brunel (clarinet) โ has just released a new recording titled A General History of Flame (www.cdbaby.com/flametet).
Adding another creative layer to this imaginative event will be visual art by Ivy Demos, whose work is informed by an improvisational jazz-like aesthetic based on her childhood jazz music studies. Demosโs work is described as โradiant with kinetic energy . . . a kaleidoscopic storm of primary colors, metallics, and textures.โ
The April 26th concert will take place from 7:00โ9:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $15 and can be purchased at the door. โSounds of Swing Orchestra,โ the second concert in EulipiaJazzโs three-part series schedule for Tuesday, June 10th, will feature a 16-piece big band.
