On Sunday, June 14th at 7 p.m., EulipiaJazz will presents a concert at the LilyPad, 1353 Cambridge St., in Inman Square, Cambridge.
The concert - Caliente Meets Cool - The Cal Tjader Project will feature Rich Greenblatt on vibraphone. The group will be playing a cross section of tunes from the long career of Cal Tjader including tunes by Clare Fisher who wrote, arranged and performed with Cal.
The Cal Tjader Project is the realization of band leader and bass player Scott Samenfeld's life-long love of Latin Jazz and Cal Tjader's contributions to the genre. Samenfeld, EulipiaJazz's founder, brought the group together for a concert held at the Arlington Center for the Arts back in January. “The band had so much fun playing together that we wanted to do it again. We've added a few tunes to the repertoire and added Jim Repa, a great sax and flute player, to the group”. The group will consist of: Rich Greenblatt on vibes, Scott Samenfeld – bass, Ethan K – Guitar, Susanna Fiore – Piano and Percussion, Karen Gruber – Congas and Percussion, Mark Mullins – Trumpet, Jim Repa – sax and flute, Phil Neighbors – Drums.
Rich Greenblatt is a vibraphonist and composer who plays with “dazzling speed and a truly magical touch.” His compositions are lyrical, rhythmic and harmonically colorful. His newest recording draws inspiration from Jazz, Blues, World Music, Impressionist Classical composers and visual cues from New England flora. He has performed at jazz festivals in the US and Europe. He is an Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music and endorses Musser vibraphones and Vic Firth mallets and sticks.
EulipiaJazz is a production company based in Arlington, MA that supports improvisation and collaboration between artists across multiple disciplines in an effort to create a vibrant scene for great performances featuring local artists. The 2014-15 EulipiaJazz Concert Series presented 3 concerts at the Arlington Center for the Arts that were supported in part by a generous grant from the Arlington Cultural Council. It has also produced programs in smaller venues in Arlington and Cambridge.
