Free jazz and social justice: a trio of the great luminaries of experimental improvised music perform a radical and lyrical dialogue in sound — and also discuss the position of the innovative Black artist in America today. In a rare hybrid concert/symposium, William Parker, “the most consistently brilliant free jazz bassist of all time,” the “monumental, galvanic” pianist Matthew Shipp, and the “expansive” saxophonist Daniel Carter will debate in words, then demonstrate collective political action through sound. The concert will be preceded by a screening of the short documentary film “The Cry of Jazz” (1959).
