Bees Deluxe & The Barrett Anderson Band Double-bill at The Burren

Two of Boston’s most distinctive blues bands, The Barrett Anderson Band and Bees Deluxe come together for rare double-bill on Friday, January 14th at The Burren in Davis Square, Somerville. Together, these two bands explore the blues from its roots in the Mississippi Delta to its influence on jazz and psychedelic rock.

Barrett Anderson is a blues legend, who, as a teenager, performed with Pinetop Perkins. A former member of Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters and the Monster Mike Welch Band, Barrett now leads his own band that features Charlie Mallett on guitar and vocals, Doug MacLeod on drums, Jamie Hatch on bass and vocals and Anderson on guitar and vocals. Bees Deluxe, led by British guitar monster Conrad Warre has toured from Maine to Miami fueled by the power of a sound they call “acid blues.” With a repertoire of danceable originals and innovative takes less-traveled blues and jazz tunes, Bees Deluxe features Carol Band on keys, harmonica and vocals, Allyn Dorr on bass and vocals and Warre on guitar and lead vocals. Blues Blast Magazine wrote: “...what might happen if Freddie King took a lot of acid then wrote a song with Pat Metheny and asked a strung-out Stevie Ray Vaughan to take a solo.”
