Eddie Gomez, world-renowned bassist and composer, brings to Cambridge a new group: The Per Sempre Quintet, named after Gomez’s latest album as a leader. For this exclusive appearance at the Lilypad, Eddie Gomez is joined by the original band members Marco Pignataro on sax and Matt Marvuglio on flute, in addition to Boston acclaimed pianist Laszlo Gardony and drummer Yoron Israel.

Gomez first rose to prominence when he was only 21 as the bassist in the legendary Bill Evans Trio. During this period, he played on a variety of prominent recordings- two of which went on to win Grammy Awards. After leaving the Bill Evans Trio in 1977, Gomez went on to share the stage with jazz greats such as Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Nancy Wilson and McCoy Tyner, among many others. Today, Gomez is a highly sought after artist, educator and the recipient of two Latin Grammy awards.

Per Sempre (BFM) is Gomez’s latest album as a leader. Recorded while on tour in Italy in winter of 2010, the album was released on BFM during the spring of last year. “The music during the tour was a joy on so many levels; artistically, as well as the friendship that evolved,” says Gomez of the album; “This camaraderie was evident in the music, as it should be. We all agreed to chronicle a part of this musical odyssey, and so we went into the studio. Our instincts did not fail us.” The concert will present music from the album, which has been described as “a pure expression of organic musical dialogue” by reviewer Dan Bilawski on AllAboutJazz.com.
