Eddie Gomez, world-renowned bassist and composer, brings to Cambridge his Eddie Gomez Quintet. For this exclusive appearance at the Lilypad, Eddie Gomez is joined by Marco Pignataro on tenor and soprano saxophone, Matt Marvuglio on flute, pianist Tony Germain and drummer Ron Savage.

Gomez first rose to prominence when he was only 21 as the bassist in the legendary Bill Evans Trio. During this period, he played on a variety of prominent recordings- two of which went on to win Grammy Awards. After leaving the Bill Evans Trio in 1977, Gomez went on to share the stage with jazz greats such as Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Nancy Wilson and McCoy Tyner, among many others. Gomez, Pignataro and Marvuglio recently came together on Per Sempre (BFM), Gomez’s latest album as a leader. The concert will present music from the album, which has been described as “a pure expression of organic musical dialogue” by reviewer Dan Bilawski on AllAboutJazz.com. Along with music from Per Sempre, The Eddie Gomez Quintet will perform additional originals composed by Gomez, Pignataro and Marvuglio as well as newly arranged standards.

Earlier this year, Gomez played at the Lilypad with his Per Sempre quintet to wonderful reviews. “Gomez’s playing with elegant and exciting throughout” states Jason Rubin of Artsfuse, “…Pignataro distinguished himself on both tenor and soprano saxes and Marvuglio explores the flute’s full range of colors…here’s hoping [Gomez] comes back soon.”
