fluteAbout
"Hiro Honshuku is a man of many parts virtuoso flutist, imaginative composer, capable visual artist and gifted teacher. A composer is always heartened to learn he has been an influence in a musician's life; Hiro has taken what he learned from the Lydian Concept and used it as I had intended it to be used to fashion his own unique voice. Drawing from his experience of growing up in Japan, studying European traditional music, and coming to the jazz idiom as a young man, his music is pan-cultural and compelling." - George Russell
Hiro Honshuku is a composer, arranger, band leader, flutist who also plays EWI, a synthesizer horn. He writes his music with jazz, blues, funk, and Brazilian rhythms because he wants his music to groove. His harmonic sense is very unique, influenced by George Russell's Lycian Chromatic Concept. Hiro graduated simultaneously from Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory. He received Summa Cum Laude for his Diploma of Music at Berklee as a performance major. He received Academic Honors and Distinction in Performance for his Master of Music at the New England Conservatory as a Jazz Composition major. Hiro is currently teaching at Longy School of Music and The New England Institute of Art....
