Moving to Boston in 2004, Jean-marie started the JMC Quartet. Enlisting some of the finest musicians in New England, Bill Vint on sax, Keala Kaumeheiwa on bass, and Gilson Schachnick on piano, he recorded french compositions from Claire Laronde and Nicolas Brasard as well as his own original sounds. His CD, Kaya, was released in 2008 at Ryles Jazz Club in Cambridge, Ma. Jean-marie continues to perform in major venues around New England, having great reviews from jazz audiences. Jean-marie’s seeking spirit toward the collaboration of world music led him to meet a great tabla player, Amol Khanapurkar with whom he started a percussion duo, mixing influences from Africa, India and South America…an eclectic fusion emerged!
Today the JMC Quartet is composed of talented young Berklee College musicians, Jason Gillenwater on sax, Dwight Rivera on piano and Greg Overhultz-Feingold on bass, all eager to raise the bar! Through their interpretation of the compositions, you will discover both the beautiful melodies as well as the intricate rhythms borrowed from a diversity of cultures.
Amol, will join the quartet at the Regatta Bar for a taste of fusion with tabla & drums. This unique sound is exciting, enriched by Jean-marie’s and Amol's respective, diverse experiences and their joy to share with the audience the multiplicity of musical possibility!
