Most recently her release Diatom Ribbons was hailed as the #1 Jazz Album of 2019 by the New York Times. Solve for X, a nod to mathematics that underpin music structures (and also to the challenges of finding spontaneous musical solutions to unknowns while improvising), features Kris Davis and the JCM students collaborating in various settings and combinations. The concert will range from Kris’s solo piano explorations to duo or trio improvisations, to select compositions from Diatom Ribbons, to large ensemble structured improvisation (conduction).
