The Jazz at The Green Room series celebrates its first birthday with the Matt Glaser Trio!

Violinist (or is it fiddler?) Matt Glaser served as the chair of the string department at the Berklee College of Music for more than twenty-five years. He is now the founder and artistic director of Berklee's American Roots Music Program.

Matt has said, "When I'm playing jazz there is always an element of bluegrass mixed in. And when I'm playing bluegrass, there is always an element of jazz." His new instructional book, Fiddle Tunes on Jazz Changes, teaches students to "develop jazz solos using melodic fragments from traditional fiddle tunes." ...

The Jazz at The Green Room series celebrates its first birthday with the Matt Glaser Trio!

Violinist (or is it fiddler?) Matt Glaser served as the chair of the string department at the Berklee College of Music for more than twenty-five years. He is now the founder and artistic director of Berklee's American Roots Music Program.

Matt has said, "When I'm playing jazz there is always an element of bluegrass mixed in. And when I'm playing bluegrass, there is always an element of jazz." His new instructional book, Fiddle Tunes on Jazz Changes, teaches students to "develop jazz solos using melodic fragments from traditional fiddle tunes."

His exploration of jazz, bluegrass, and the rich terrain in between has afforded him the opportunity to play with such varied artists as Stephane Grappelli, Yo Yo Ma, Bob Dylan, Ralph Stanley, David Grisman, Andy Statman, Lee Konitz... you get the idea! He also served as an advisor and onscreen commentator for Ken Burns' PBS Jazz documentary series.

He'll be joined for this show by Brittany Karlson on bass and vocals and Berklee colleague Jon Wheatley on guitar. Brittany is sought-after bassist in jazz and acoustic music worlds. In addition to working with Matt, she regularly performs with the Molly Tuttle Trio and Letter Castle. She has appeared across the U.S., Canada, Spain, and Sweden. Jon Wheatley is a longtime professor at Berklee and has appeared on dozens of recordings, including his own acclaimed 2004 release 'Guitar on the Loose in London.' He's been a sideman for many performers including Diana Krall, Karrin Allyson, "Sweets" Edison and Gunther Schuller. He's performed extensively in the U.S. and Europe.
