Mauricio Morales is a Mexican acoustic and electric bass player. He was exposed to the arts from a young age through his mother, Teresa Gonzalez, a renowned Mexican watercolor painter, and his father, who had a big passion for music. At the age of 13, Morales got his first instrument when his father bought him his very first bass, and he decided he was going to be a musician. Morales played with people his age and learned songs that were popular at the time. Slowly he started to get called for gigs and other projects. The more he studied, the more he wanted to achieve as a bass player and as a writer. After falling in love with jazz, he studied at Berklee starting with a summer program in 2009 and eventually moving to Boston for his first semester at Berklee in 2012. He has studied with renowned musicians such as Agustin Bernal, George Garzone, Tia Fuller, Greg Hopkins, and Hal Crook, among others, and he has performed with artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Robin Eubanks, and Tia Fuller. He has recorded his first EP, Mauricio Morales Group, and has collaborated on several other projects within the Berklee community.
