On Sunday March 12 at 5pm, the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House of Provincetown (236 Commercial Street) and John Thomas will present a concert of meditative and inspiring music to raise funds to provide life-saving help to people affected by earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

All donations collected at the concert or through the associated Venmo QR code will be sent to Doctors Without Borders, a well-known international organization that had medical teams in Syria in the first few hours after the earthquake. The group is also working in southern Turkey to provide medical assistance.

The concert will include Turkish and Syrian folk melodies, Mevlevi sema ceremonial music, compositions by Fazıl Say, and music intended to provide a sonic environment for reflection and action. Musicians are John Thomas (piano), Ken Field (saxophone & flute), Justin Torrellas (reeds), and special guest Basel Zayed (oud & vocals).

Basel Zayed is a virtuoso oud player and acclaimed vocalist specializing in classical and contemporary Arabic music. He draws on deep experience with the Maqam (Arabic) music tradition to explore the beauty and universality of Middle Eastern music, especially when combined with other musical styles. He has performed at many international music venues including Sweden, Italy, France, Spain, Denmark, Lebanon, United Kingdom, United States, Jordan, Egypt and Palestine.

The concert will be live-streamed on the YouTube Great Music on Sundays @5 channel and archived there for 24/7 viewing. Links for donations will be listed under the viewing screen.
