A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ricardo Grilli is a New York based guitarist and composer whose debut album If On a Winter’s Night a Traveler is making waves among the jazz community. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2011, Grilli moved to New York to continue his burgeoning career. A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ricardo Grilli is a New York based guitarist and composer whose debut album If On a Winter’s Night a Traveler is making waves among the jazz community. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2011, Grilli moved to New York to continue his burgeoning career. Throughout his career, he has performed alongside Mark Turner, Chris Potter, Dave Liebman, among others, as well as at The Blue Note, Rockwood Music Hall and The Bar Next Door, among other venues.

The album, which is inspired by the Italo Calvino book of the same title, has been called “outstanding” by JazzTimes critic Steve Greenlee and referred to as “thoughtful” and “visceral” by Jazz Weekly reviewer George W. Harris. His music is a self-described blend of contemporary jazz and Brazilian music featuring intricate rhythms, harmony, and high energy improvisation. At Scullers, material from this debut album will be played.

Joining Grilli is an amazing ensemble of diverse musicians including pianist and fellow Berklee graduate Christian Li, bassist Edward Perez, who is considered “rock solid” and “propulsive” by All About Jazz and highly esteemed drummer Lee Fish. Also joining the group is special guest Jason Palmer. Trumpeter Palmer has been featured on over a dozen albums as a sideman and has worked with icons such as Herbie Hancock, Roy Haynes and Phil Woods, among many others.
